  • How big can I get a mirror for my room?

Big mirrors are fantastic for flooding rooms with more light and making them look bigger. The biggest off-the-shelf mirror is generally, 3m x 1.8m x 6mm. Don’t overlook the difficulty or impossibility of getting this large sheet of glass all the way to its desired location. Bending it is not an option.

  • How do I clean my mirror?

In the bathroom, wiping down the mirror with a towel is not a good idea. Newspapers, these days, leave a residue… as does paper towel. Microfibre is a much better option. Glass cleaning solutions are easy enough to find. White vinegar and water solution is good. So too is rubbing or isopropyl alcohol.

  • How does a mirror work?

Mirrors are generally made of clear glass, backed by a thin film of silver or aluminium. These are known as plane mirrors. They have a smooth surface, not unlike the surface of still water in a pond. Rough surfaces scatter light. Almost anything with a smooth surface, apart from materials that absorb photons (light particles), will reflect light that hits it. When rays of light bounce back from a smooth flat surface, they come back at the same angle. Your eyes see this as a “mirror image”.
